New Delhi, June 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to preside over the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) on June 26. The agenda will focus on pressing issues such as the rise of synthetic drugs, trafficking facilitated by the darknet, and enhancing rehabilitation services for drug users over the next three years.

This significant meeting will convene representatives from 44 central ministries and departments, alongside 108 participants from state governments and drug law enforcement agencies, in a hybrid format.

The discussions aim to bolster the government's initiatives towards realizing a drug-free India.

During this session, Shah will introduce the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029), which has been developed through extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including central government departments and drug law enforcement agencies.

This document presents a collaborative strategy to tackle the drug crisis, emphasizing demand reduction, supply reduction, and harm reduction.

It proposes a network-centric enforcement model that clearly delineates responsibilities, timelines, and measurable objectives for all involved parties, while also integrating enforcement, rehabilitation, public awareness, capacity building, and inter-agency cooperation.

According to a government statement, "This vision document will act as a foundational framework for policy development, execution, and institutional enhancement nationwide to combat the drug issue effectively."

Additionally, Shah will unveil the NCB Annual Report for 2025 and inaugurate newly established zonal offices of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu and Guwahati.

"This meeting is anticipated to strengthen the government's 'Zero Tolerance Policy' against drug trafficking, as highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," the statement noted.

The government also mentioned that during the Drug Disposal Fortnight Campaign, approximately 2,09,500 kg of narcotic substances valued at around Rs 6,000 crore are slated for destruction by various central and state law enforcement agencies across the nation.

As per the statement, this meeting will serve as a platform for a thorough evaluation of the collective efforts made by stakeholders in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

"Emphasizing the necessity for a comprehensive governmental approach to effectively tackle the drug crisis, the high-level meeting will discuss critical issues related to combating drug trafficking and abuse over the next three years," it concluded.
