Amit Shah Reviews Anti-Naxal Operations in Chhattisgarh
Amit Shah's Visit to Chhattisgarh
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9 to assess the ongoing security operations against Naxalism. During his trip, he will lead a high-level security review meeting focused on the Naxal situation and will hold additional discussions in Raipur. Furthermore, he is expected to participate in the Bastar Pandum program. This visit comes at a crucial time as the government aims to eliminate left-wing extremism by March 31, 2026.
Recent Security Operations
Earlier today, security forces engaged in a confrontation in the southern region of Bijapur district, resulting in the death of a Maoist. An AK-47 rifle was also seized from the scene. Meanwhile, in Gogunda village of Sukma district, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) demolished a memorial dedicated to Rao Ula Srinivas, also known as Ramanna, a member of the Maoist central committee. This action followed the establishment of a forward operational base by the CRPF in Gogunda on November 20, 2025, which has significantly reduced Naxalite influence in the area.
Impact of the Operations
Speaking to the media, Assistant Commandant Vidheko Kye of the 74th Battalion stated, "The Gogunda area has long been under Naxalite control and was a cut-off zone for security forces. However, the 74th Battalion established a forward operational base on November 20, 2025. Today, the battalion successfully demolished the memorial of Maoist CC member Ramanna during a joint operation, paving the way for a brighter future for the upcoming generations."
Ramanna's Legacy
Ramanna was a prominent Maoist leader who passed away from a heart attack in 2019. He was the mastermind behind one of the deadliest attacks on security personnel in Chhattisgarh in 2010, which resulted in the deaths of 76 CRPF soldiers. He was also involved in planning the Jhiram Ghati attack in 2013, which claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including top Congress leaders from the state.
