Union Home Minister Takes Action After Kishtwar Disaster

New Delhi: On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to both the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to assess the aftermath of a severe cloudburst in Kishtwar, pledging comprehensive support for the affected residents.

The cloudburst, which impacted the isolated village of Chasoti, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 12 lives and caused extensive destruction, according to officials.

Shah confirmed that local authorities are actively engaged in relief and rescue efforts, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) dispatched to the affected area.

In a post on 'X', he stated, 'I spoke with the LG and Chief Minister regarding the cloudburst in Kishtwar district. The local administration is executing relief and rescue operations, and NDRF teams have been promptly sent to the site.'

The Home Minister emphasized that the central government is vigilantly monitoring the situation and is committed to supporting the people of Jammu and Kashmir during this crisis. He assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to those in need.

The disaster struck Chasoti, the final accessible village en route to the Machail Mata temple, between noon and 1 PM, coinciding with a significant gathering for the Machail Mata yatra. The shrine is located 8.5 kilometers from Chasoti.

So far, twelve bodies have been recovered, and officials express concerns that the death toll may increase.
