Amit Shah's Election Rally in Sonitpur

Guwahati, Mar 29: On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held an election rally in Sonitpur, Assam, to garner support for BJP candidate Ashok Singhal, intensifying the party's campaign as the Assembly elections approach.

Shah expressed his apologies for arriving late, attributing the delay to adverse weather conditions that affected his travel. He stated, “I appreciate the patience of the people as I had to switch from helicopter to road travel due to the weather.”

He urged the audience to support the BJP-led NDA, emphasizing the importance of ensuring Singhal's success in the upcoming polls on April 9. “It is crucial to secure his victory to strengthen the BJP-led NDA government in Assam,” he remarked.

Shah contrasted the current BJP administration with previous Congress governments, asserting that Assam faced significant insurgency issues during their rule. “Under Congress, Assam was troubled by insurgency. The BJP has taken decisive steps to restore peace and stability in the state,” he claimed.

Addressing the issue of illegal immigration, Shah noted the BJP's efforts to tackle the problem but acknowledged that more time was needed. “We have been working tirelessly for ten years to combat infiltration. If you grant us five more years, we will completely eliminate it. We are dedicated to identifying and expelling infiltrators,” he stated.

He highlighted the reclamation of land, mentioning that approximately 1.25 lakh acres have been freed from encroachment by infiltrators, promising to continue these efforts.

Shah also criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi for opposing initiatives aimed at addressing infiltration. “They have resisted the SIR. The people of Assam should question them about their stance against such measures,” he remarked.

In a pointed comment towards Gogoi, Shah said, “Gaurav Gogoi seems to favor protecting infiltrators. The citizens of Assam are questioning whether he stands with them or with the infiltrators.”

Shah showcased the development initiatives of the BJP government, detailing various welfare schemes and infrastructure projects in Assam. “We have established model schools, set up medical colleges, and enhanced healthcare facilities throughout the state,” he noted.

He also mentioned flagship programs, stating, “Under the Orunodoi scheme, approximately 37 lakh women are receiving financial aid of Rs 1,250. The Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerona scheme has created new opportunities for the youth, and land rights are being granted to tea garden communities.”

Reaffirming his main message, Shah concluded that Assam's advancement is a result of BJP governance. “The progress of Assam has been made possible by the BJP government. With your backing, we will continue to advance this development,” he asserted.
