Amit Shah's Assurance for Assam's Future
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence in the BJP's re-election in Assam and announced the commitment to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) during the first cabinet meeting of the state. Speaking at election rallies on April 7, the last day of campaigning before the Assam Assembly elections, Shah stated that the UCC would prohibit anyone in Assam from marrying four times.
While addressing a rally in Cachar, he criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting that the BJP would expel every infiltrator from the country. He mentioned that they are removing the names of infiltrators from the voter list. Shah questioned Rahul Gandhi's opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and his stance against granting voting rights to Bengali refugees, suggesting that Gandhi welcomes infiltrators because they represent a potential vote bank for him. He emphasized that regardless of Mamata Banerjee's tears or Rahul Gandhi's protests, the BJP is determined to remove every infiltrator from the nation.
Shah further stated that once the BJP forms the government, they will introduce the UCC in Assam's first cabinet meeting. He explained that the UCC signifies one law for everyone, which would prevent anyone from having multiple marriages in the state. Additionally, he announced that if the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returns to power, a second secretariat would be established in Silchar. He urged voters to support the BJP to drive out infiltrators, claiming that the Congress had ruined Assam over the years by allowing infiltrators to enter from 1950 to 2014. He accused them of creating divisions between Bodos and Assamese, as well as between Assamese and Bengalis, to maintain their electoral dominance. However, he noted that since the BJP came to power, peace has been restored in the region.
Highlighting efforts to curb infiltration, Shah asserted that the BJP is poised to form a government in Bengal this time. He promised that they would completely stop infiltrators in this corridor. He explained that in the first five years, they halted infiltration in Assam, identified infiltrators in the next five years, and in the subsequent five years, they would expel them one by one.
