Agartala, Sept 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given assurances regarding the implementation of a tripartite agreement aimed at the indigenous communities of Tripura. This agreement is set to be executed in two phases, with land rights issues anticipated to be resolved within this month.
This commitment was made during a significant meeting at the Union Home Minister's residence in New Delhi on Friday, which lasted approximately 90 minutes. Attendees included Tripura's Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, BJP's North East coordinator Dr. Sambit Patra, along with senior officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Post-meeting, Chief Minister Dr. Saha expressed on Facebook that he had a "fruitful and constructive discussion" with the Union Home Minister, focusing on mutual interests and the welfare of Tripura's populace.
According to sources, the discussions were heavily centered on the tripartite agreement's execution, safeguarding the identity and rights of the indigenous tribal communities, and land rights issues as outlined in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
During the meeting, Shah confirmed that essential land rights documents or writs would be issued as part of the process, with progress expected within this month.
This meeting is considered crucial in light of the current political climate in Tripura and the speculation surrounding a potential alliance between the BJP and TIPRA Motha ahead of the forthcoming Village Committee elections.
Additionally, sources indicated that Chief Minister Dr. Saha is likely to provide a comprehensive statement regarding the outcomes of the New Delhi meeting upon his return to Tripura on Saturday.
