Addressing the Gorkha Community's Concerns

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to address the issues faced by the Gorkha community residing in the Darjeeling hills through constitutional means, without dividing West Bengal.

While speaking at an election rally in Gangarampur, located in the South Dinajpur district of North Bengal, Shah accused Humayun Kabir, the founder of the Udayan Party, of acting as an agent for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He claimed that they are constructing a mosque in Murshidabad with her consent, similar to the Babri Masjid.

Shah asserted, “The BJP will not permit the construction of any mosque.” He also promised that farmers in West Bengal would be allowed to supply potatoes to other states, ensuring they receive a fair price for their produce.

He further declared that if the BJP comes to power, they would eliminate political violence and the syndicate rule in West Bengal, as well as expel infiltrators from the state.

Shah reiterated the commitments made in the party's manifesto, which includes establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a 600-bed cancer hospital, an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), an Indian Institute of Management (IIM), and a sports university in North Bengal. He also mentioned plans to include the Rajbanshi community in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and to set up an eco-friendly adventure sports center in Darjeeling.
