Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure victory in at least 110 out of the 152 constituencies during the initial phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections held on April 23.

Shah stated, "After a thorough analysis conducted overnight, we believe that BJP candidates will triumph in a minimum of 110 constituencies, if not more. We are poised to establish a new government with a decisive majority," he informed reporters.

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the voters who participated in the first phase, emphasizing that the citizens of West Bengal are transitioning from fear to hope. He also commended the central forces, Election Commission officials, and state police for ensuring a peaceful election process, noting that there were no fatalities during the voting.

Additionally, Shah hinted at the identity of the next Chief Minister for the BJP-led government in West Bengal, assuring current Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that her successor will be a true Bengali, someone who has grown up in the state and has an academic background in the Bengali language.

When questioned about the challenges the BJP might face in the remaining 142 constituencies set to vote on April 29, Shah acknowledged the competition but expressed optimism. He aims for the BJP to win at least 77 seats in the upcoming phase, stating, "The entire West Bengal election is a significant challenge for us this time. We are targeting a minimum of 77 victories in the second phase. Ultimately, it is the people who decide their government, and I foresee a wave of support for us in West Bengal this time."
