Amit Shah Highlights India's Progress in Disaster Management

Amit Shah Commends Disaster Management Initiatives
On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) for their efforts in positioning India as a global leader in disaster management. He expressed the desire to establish interstate mock drills as an annual event, emphasizing that such initiatives require the cooperation of states. Shah noted that various cyclones and disasters necessitate these drills, which cannot be executed without state support.
Future Plans for Disaster Relief Technology
Shah further mentioned plans to advance disaster relief technology through the Startup India initiative. He urged states to begin brainstorming on this matter. He highlighted the importance of environmental conservation in these efforts, commending the work done by the Indian government under Prime Minister Modi's leadership over the past eleven years. Shah remarked that merely thinking about disaster prevention is an incomplete approach; a comprehensive strategy must involve creating a resilient environment to prevent disasters from occurring.
Recognition of NDMA, NDRF, and CDRI
He expressed pride in the fact that within a decade, the NDMA, NDRF, and CDRI have significantly contributed to making India a global leader in disaster management. The NDMA has excelled in policy structuring, research, disseminating various studies, developing numerous apps, and coordinating policy matters effectively. Meanwhile, the NDRF has built a strong reputation and earned respect across the nation.
