Amit Shah's Remarks on Sovereignty and Military Commitment
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that India's armed forces and leadership are dedicated to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, a commitment clearly demonstrated during Operation Sindoor. Speaking at the unveiling of a statue of Maratha leader and General Peshwa Bajirao I at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, the BJP leader reflected on how thoughts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Bajirao inspire him during challenging times.
Shah highlighted that the NDA is the ideal location for Bajirao's statue, as it serves as a training ground for military leaders. He noted that Pune is the birthplace of the ethos of Swaraj, where the concept first spread across the country in the 17th century. He recalled how Tilak Maharaj famously declared, 'Swaraj is my birthright,' during the struggle against British rule. The legacy of Maharashtra's land is exemplified by the contributions of Veer Savarkar, who showcased what one can achieve for their country.
He expressed confidence that the inspiration drawn from Bajirao's statue at the NDA would ensure that no one could threaten India's borders. Shah emphasized that the principles of warfare remain timeless, highlighting the importance of strategy, speed, dedication, patriotism, and sacrifice, which lead to victory. He noted that these qualities are epitomized in the 500-year history of India by Peshwa Bajirao.
Shah recounted how, during a time when South India was under the rule of Adilshahi, Qutbshahi, Nizamshahi, and Imadshahi, and North India was dominated by the Mughals, a 12-year-old boy resolved to liberate the country and establish Hindavi Swaraj. He praised Shivaji Maharaj's extraordinary bravery and his role in instilling the spirit of Swaraj in the youth. Following Shivaji, many figures like Dharmveer Sambhaji Maharaj and Veer Tarabai continued this legacy.
Shah concluded by stating, 'Whenever I have negative thoughts, I think of young Shivaji and Peshwa Bajirao, who established Swaraj against all odds.' He emphasized that the responsibility of safeguarding Swaraj now lies with 1.4 billion Indians. He assured that when the time comes to defend Swaraj, the military and leadership will rise to the occasion, with Operation Sindoor serving as a prime example.
