Amit Shah's Strong Criticism of Congress in Assam

On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce critique against the Congress party during his visit to Guwahati, Assam. He accused Congress of embezzling ₹150 crores annually from the state's health budget throughout their 15 years in power. While inaugurating and laying the foundation for health projects worth approximately ₹2,092 crores, Shah emphasized that Congress has only worked for the benefit of its leaders' families, whereas the BJP is dedicated to providing affordable healthcare to all sections of society.

Targeting Rahul Gandhi's Protests

Shah also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, criticizing his recent actions. He stated that while it is acceptable to protest from the opposition, there should be a level of decorum. Shah condemned Gandhi's act of eating tea and snacks on the steps of Parliament and his recent protest at the AI summit, labeling these actions as inappropriate. He remarked that Parliament is a sacred space for democracy, and Gandhi seems unaware of where to have breakfast. According to Shah, such behavior tarnishes the country's image.

Expansion of Healthcare Facilities in Assam

Amit Shah inaugurated the 'Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital' in Guwahati, which was built at a cost of ₹675 crores, marking it as the city's second major government medical college. Additionally, he announced the establishment of new cancer centers in Golaghat and Tinsukia. Shah praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating that Assam's healthcare facilities have now reached par with those in developed states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

Foundation Laid for New Multi-Crore Projects

During his visit, the Home Minister also laid the groundwork for several new hospitals, including super-specialty hospitals in Difu (₹220 crores), Jorhat (₹310 crores), and Barpeta (₹284 crores). Furthermore, a 'Health Building' costing ₹218 crores will be constructed in Guwahati, along with a new district hospital in Abhayapuri at ₹115 crores. This marks Shah's fourth visit to Assam in the last four months, which is seen as crucial ahead of the upcoming elections.
