Amit Shah's Strong Remarks Against DMK
On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce critique of the DMK party led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, accusing it of crossing all limits of corruption during its four-year tenure. Speaking at a rally in Madurai, Shah expressed confidence that the BJP would form the government in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu by 2026. He charged that the DMK government had engaged in significant corruption by handing over a ₹450 crore nutrition kit provided by the central government to a private company, thereby depriving the poor of essential food supplies.
Amit Shah's Apology to Party Workers
At the beginning of his address, Shah apologized to the Tamil Nadu party workers for not being able to communicate in Tamil, one of India's greatest languages. He asserted that the NDA government, in alliance with AIADMK, would be established in Tamil Nadu by 2026. Although he resides in Delhi, he emphasized that his ears are always tuned to Tamil Nadu. He acknowledged M.K. Stalin's claim that he cannot defeat the DMK, stating that it would be the people of Tamil Nadu who would bring about that change.
Shah also alleged that the DMK government was involved in a ₹4,600 crore sand mining scam, which forced the state's impoverished residents to purchase sand at inflated prices, benefiting the ruling party financially. He reiterated his demand for medical and engineering courses to be offered in Tamil and noted that Prime Minister Modi had honored Tamil Nadu by placing the Sengol in Parliament, expressing hope that Stalin would thank the Prime Minister in a letter.
Concerns Over TSMAC Scam
The Home Minister raised concerns regarding the alleged Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TSMAC) scam, claiming it resulted in a ₹39,000 crore loss to the state treasury, funds that could have been used to construct two additional classrooms in every school across Tamil Nadu. However, last month, the Supreme Court halted the Enforcement Directorate's actions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act concerning the Tamil Nadu government's petition, stating it infringed upon the powers of the central agency and violated the Constitution.
