Amit Shah Chairs Meeting on National Security in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Home Minister Amit Shah Leads Security Meeting
On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a meeting of the Parliamentary Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The meeting commenced at 11 AM and concluded around 2:40 PM.
During the discussions, topics such as national security, disaster management, cyber security, and regional infrastructure were addressed. Emphasis was placed on utilizing advanced technologies to combat crime and establishing regional centers like the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and the National Forensic Science University (NFSU).
According to sources, a separate session was dedicated to the strategic significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, committee member Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Central Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and other officials.
In the afternoon, Shah is set to inaugurate an exhibition on the 'New Justice Code' at the ITF Ground in Vijay Puram (formerly Port Blair). Following this, he will lay the foundation for various projects at Netaji Stadium.
Shah arrived in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a three-day visit on Friday night. His flight landed at INS Utkrisht near Veer Savarkar International Airport in Vijaypuram around 10:45 PM.
He was welcomed by Lieutenant Governor D.K. Joshi and others. This marks Shah's second visit to the islands in less than a month; he previously visited on December 12 to commemorate the 116th anniversary of V.D. Savarkar's renowned poem 'Sagar Pran Tal Mala.' Authorities have tightened security in the Union Territory in anticipation of Shah's visit, which will conclude on January 4.
