Amit Shah's Participation in Pongal Celebrations
On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the Pongal festival in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a political-cultural initiative during this festival, named 'Namma Ooru Modi Pongal'. Through this program, BJP workers and supporters celebrate Pongal at the local level, highlighting the policies, welfare schemes, and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Significance of Pongal Festival
Pongal is one of the most significant festivals for Tamils worldwide, symbolizing gratitude towards nature, the sun, farm animals, and farmers. Traditionally celebrated as a family festival, it represents prosperity, thankfulness, and unity. To facilitate the celebrations, the Tamil Nadu government announced a gift package for eligible beneficiaries, which includes one kilogram of raw rice, one kilogram of sugar, and a sugarcane bundle.
Amit Shah's Two-Day Visit to Tamil Nadu
The Union Home Minister arrived in Tamil Nadu for a two-day visit and participated in the closing ceremony of the 'Tamizhagam Thalai Nimira Tamizhin Payanam' campaign, organized under the leadership of Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran. Earlier on Sunday, while addressing a large gathering at the conclusion of Nagendran's marathon journey, Shah declared, 'In April 2026, an NDA government will be established in Tamil Nadu.'
Looking Ahead to Future Elections
Reflecting on recent electoral victories, he stated that 2024 and 2025 would be years of triumph for the BJP, and 2026 would be the year they secure mandates in Tamil Nadu and Bengal. Shah urged the citizens of Tamil Nadu to unite and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'Developed India'. His speech formally confirmed the BJP's coalition strategy to oppose the ruling DMK, announcing that the party is ready to lead a 'strong alliance' with AIADMK and other regional partners.
