Ambush in Manipur Claims Lives of Two Assam Rifles Personnel

Imphal, July 6: Two members of the 40 Assam Rifles lost their lives following an ambush by suspected militants on their convoy around 1:50 PM on Monday at Nungshang Kong, situated along NH-202 in the Ukhrul district of Manipur.
The victims have been identified as Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh, both of whom succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Their remains were subsequently transported to the Assam Rifles base at Shangshak.
Local villagers reported hearing intense gunfire for several hours post-attack, suggesting a sustained firefight between the security personnel and the militants.
However, there has been no official statement regarding the length of the gunfight or any casualties among the militants during the encounter.
Manipur's Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the ambush, expressing his sorrow over the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy.
He stated, "Such acts only serve to disrupt the peace and harmony we strive to maintain. My thoughts are with the injured personnel, and I wish them a swift recovery."
Reassuring the public, the Home Minister expressed confidence in the security forces, asserting that those responsible would face justice.
"I trust that the security forces will take all necessary actions to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable under the law. Let us unite in our commitment to peace, security, and the welfare of Manipur," Konthoujam emphasized.
As of the latest updates, security forces continued to maintain a presence in the area while awaiting further information regarding the ambush.
