Amazon's New Fee Structure Effective March 16

Online shopping just got easier and more affordable! Amazon's new fee policy will take effect on March 16.

New Delhi, March 2, 2026: Amazon India has announced a significant new fee policy aimed at providing relief to sellers, which will come into effect on March 16, 2026. This change will eliminate the referral fee (commission) for products priced below ₹1,000. As a result, online shopping may become more economical for customers, as sellers can pass on their reduced costs in the form of lower prices.

What Are the Key Changes?

  • No referral fee for products under ₹1,000: This policy expands last year's zero-fee initiative for products priced below ₹300. It will now apply to over 1,800 categories, including clothing, footwear, earphones, household items, kitchen appliances, furniture, toys, pet supplies, and fashion jewelry.

  • Coverage: This change will impact over 125 million products, a significant increase from the previous limit of 12 million products.

  • Shipping fee reduction: There will be a reduction of over 20% in Easy Ship fees for products priced below ₹300.

  • Benefits for sellers: Overall, sellers can save up to 70% on fees, particularly benefiting small businesses and entrepreneurs in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

Impact on Customers

Previous changes have shown that sellers passed on cost reductions of 50-100% to customers in the form of lower prices. It is anticipated that products priced under ₹1,000 (which are commonly purchased) will also become cheaper this time. This initiative is part of Amazon's strategy to enhance competition against quick commerce platforms and companies like Meesho, aiming to attract more sellers and increase volume.

The implementation of zero fees for products under ₹300 last year resulted in a 50% increase in new sellers. This expansion is expected to drive further growth.
