On August 8, the Amarnath Yatra was put on hold due to adverse weather conditions, predictions of heavy rainfall in the coming days, and a decline in the number of pilgrims, as reported by officials. They indicated that no new groups were allowed to depart from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp towards the Kashmir Valley on Saturday morning.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. They stated that the movement of pilgrims will be evaluated based on weather conditions and the status of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Since the journey commenced on July 3, over 475,000 devotees have visited the Amarnath cave.

The pilgrimage is set to conclude on August 28. According to advisories from the local meteorological department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of the Jammu region until August 11, along with risks of flash floods and landslides. Despite light to moderate rain early Saturday, traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway continued to flow smoothly.
