Aman Sehrawat Leads Indian Team at Asian Wrestling Championships 2026
Overview of the Championships
Aman Sehrawat, an Olympic medallist, will be the star athlete representing India at the Asian Wrestling Championships scheduled from April 6 to 12 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. According to reports, the Indian team will consist of 30 wrestlers, with 10 participants each in women's, men's freestyle, and Greco-Roman categories. Aman, who holds the title of India's youngest Olympic medallist, will compete in the men's 61 kg weight class.
Aman's Experience in the 61 kg Category
Aman is no stranger to the 61 kg category, having previously earned two Grand Prix medals in this weight class. Earlier this year, he also secured a silver medal at the Zagreb Open. The 61 kg bracket will also include Gulomjon Abdullaev from Uzbekistan, a bronze medallist from the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 57 kg category. Additionally, Ankush will represent India in the men's 57 kg event, while Sujeet Kalkal, the reigning U23 world champion in the 65 kg category, will also participate.
Indian Women's Wrestling Team
The Indian women's wrestling squad will be missing World Championship medallist Antim Panghal, who faced an unexpected defeat against Meenakshi Goyat during the national trials for the 53 kg category, marking her first loss in three years. Manisha Bhanwala, who won gold at the 2025 Asian Wrestling Championships, will compete in the 57 kg category instead of her usual 62 kg. Mansi Ahlawat will take part in the 62 kg competition.
Greco-Roman Team Highlights
The Greco-Roman category will be led by Sunil Kumar, a five-time medallist at the Asian Championships, who will compete in the 87 kg division.
