Alyssa Healy Discusses IPL 2025 Match Incident

Alyssa Healy, the captain of the Australian cricket team, has recounted the fear and confusion that arose during the abrupt suspension of an IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala. The game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abruptly halted due to an unexpected blackout, which was later revealed to be associated with emergency security measures.

In a recent episode of The Willow Talk podcast, Healy reflected on the unsettling moment when the stadium lights went out, leading to the swift evacuation of players without any prior notice.

“Suddenly, a few of the light towers went dark... The person in charge of our group approached us, visibly shaken, and said, 'We need to leave immediately,'” Healy recounted.

Players from the Delhi Capitals, along with their support staff and families, were quickly moved to a secure area while arrangements were made for their transport back to the hotel. Healy mentioned that they were left uninformed about the specifics of the emergency situation.

“We were kept in the dark. We had no information. One moment we were playing, and the next we were being herded into a room that felt like a holding area. Everyone was confused,“ she added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later arranged a special train to ensure the safe transport of all players to Delhi. During the journey, Healy and her husband, Mitchell Starc, who plays for the Delhi Capitals, observed military-grade installations along the way.

“We were heading southwest towards the border, which was somewhat alarming. Mitch and I have played too much Call of Duty, and we noticed several SAM [surface-to-air missile] sites positioned and ready. These are radar-operated systems designed to target aircraft,” she explained.

Mitchell Starc's IPL 2025 Future Uncertain

As the IPL resumes with a new schedule, the participation of several overseas players remains uncertain. All Australian cricketers have returned home safely, with Cricket Australia allowing players to decide on their return to the IPL.

However, Australian media reports indicate that Mitchell Starc is unlikely to return for the remainder of the tournament. According to his management, the left-arm fast bowler is not expected to rejoin the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming matches.

With DC set to face Gujarat Titans on May 18, Starc's absence would significantly impact the Delhi Capitals' quest for their first IPL championship.
