Concerns Raised Over Voter List Integrity

On Wednesday, Sanjay Singh, a Member of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claimed that approximately 4.5 million voters have been removed from the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, raising significant concerns about the voter list revision process. Speaking to the media, Singh noted that the State Election Commission had released a voter list in December for the upcoming municipal and gram panchayat elections, indicating a total of 170 million voters in the state. However, he asserted that another list issued for the assembly elections, which includes both rural and urban voters, shows only 125.5 million voters.

Sanjay Singh emphasized that 4.5 million votes have been removed from the list. The State Election Commission had published a voter list for the municipal and gram panchayat elections in December, which included a total of 170 million voters. He pointed out that Prime Minister Modi, along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, released another list for the assembly elections, which combined rural and urban voters, totaling only 125.5 million. He questioned the whereabouts of the missing 4.5 million voters, stating, 'I will write to the Election Commission. They must have records of the 21.7 million individuals categorized as 'migrated'. These records should be made public.'

The AAP MP further alleged that a significant number of voters have been marked as 'migrated' and called for transparency from the Election Commission. He mentioned that he would request details regarding the Form-10 records maintained by booth-level officers (BLOs) for the 21.7 million voters allegedly marked as migrated. Singh insisted that the Election Commission should ensure transparency and maintain public trust in the electoral process by making these records accessible.

Previously, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had alleged that under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, votes from the 'PDA' (Backward, Dalit, Minority) categories were being removed from the voter list. He accused the Election Commission of assisting the central government in adding votes in its favor. During a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav questioned the credibility of the Election Commission, claiming that nearly 300,000 voters' names had already been removed from a single district, with more removals expected. He stated, 'So far, 300,000 votes have been removed from one district, and more will follow. This raises serious questions about the credibility of the Election Commission. It appears that there is a conspiracy to remove PDA votes and add their own.'
