Allegations of Rape at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta: Student Arrested

Incident Reported at IIM Calcutta

A woman has come forward with allegations that she was raped by a second-year student at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, as reported by a local news outlet.

The accused, a student hailing from Karnataka, has been apprehended and is set to appear in Alipore court on Saturday.

According to police sources, the accused had invited the victim, who is a student from a different institution, to the campus under the pretense of a counselling session.

The two had reportedly connected online and developed a rapport through discussions about their studies and future careers.

The complainant stated to the police that upon arrival, the accused met her at the institution's entrance and instructed her not to sign the visitor's log. He then led her to the boys' hostel, claiming he had business there instead of taking her to the counselling location.

Once inside, she was offered pizza and water, which she believes were drugged, leading to her loss of consciousness and subsequent assault.

She recounted that she was semi-conscious for a period before completely losing awareness.

When she regained consciousness later that evening, she found herself alone in the hostel room.

After leaving the campus, she reached out to a friend, and together they went to the police station to file a report on Friday.

The authorities have initiated a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning rape and administering harmful substances with intent to commit an offense.

Police are investigating the potential involvement of four additional individuals and have detained them for questioning.

The hostel room where the alleged incident took place has been sealed off, and forensic evidence has been gathered from the site.
