Nepotism Claims at Haryana Agricultural University

Chandigarh, July 28 - Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala has raised serious allegations regarding the appointment of the director of the 'Campus School' at Haryana Agricultural University (HAU). He claims that Vice-Chancellor Baldev Raj Kamboj bypassed regulations to appoint his wife to the position, thereby providing her with undue financial benefits. In a post on social media, Surjewala highlighted the disparity between qualified youth awaiting job opportunities and those in power who are allegedly transforming public institutions into 'family estates.'

Surjewala shared a news clipping in his post, stating, 'The Vice-Chancellor of HAU has disregarded all rules to appoint his own wife as the director of the Campus School, granting her inappropriate financial advantages.' He further alleged that this appointment was made without inviting applications or issuing any public advertisement.

Additionally, he accused Kamboj of altering the designation of a vacant Public Relations Officer (PRO) position and relaxing service rules to extend the retirement age from 58 to 60 years. Surjewala also claimed that students protesting against this appointment faced police action, including baton charges. He questioned whether Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini would take action against Vice-Chancellor Kamboj or choose to suppress the issue.
