Corruption Claims in Congress Leadership

Is it true that one must present ₹500 crores to secure the chief minister position in Congress? This accusation comes from Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a former member of the Punjab Assembly and the wife of Congress leader and cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu. Before joining Congress, Navjot Kaur was affiliated with the BJP, and her husband also had ties to the BJP. However, both are now part of Congress. While discussing Sidhu, Navjot Kaur asserted that although he has a strong connection to Congress, he will never attain the chief minister role. When the media inquired why, she responded that ₹500 crores are required to become chief minister, a sum they cannot afford.

Regarding the possibility of Sidhu returning to the BJP, Navjot stated that she openly believes he is attached to Congress, particularly to Priyanka Gandhi. However, she expressed doubt that Sidhu would be promoted within the party. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that her comments reveal widespread corruption among Congress leaders and workers. He stated that anyone contemplating the chief minister position must have ₹500 crores in their suitcase, indicating that Congress is deeply entrenched in corrupt practices. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar also responded, linking her claims to the historical transactional politics of Congress.

He questioned the presence of so many senior police officials while some are accused of extortion and corruption.
