Alia Bhatt Calls for Assistance Amid Assam Flood Crisis
New Delhi, July 29 - Actress Alia Bhatt has expressed her concern regarding the devastating floods in Assam, urging her followers to contribute to relief efforts. The flood situation in Assam began on July 19, leading to significant destruction in the region. On Wednesday, Alia shared a post on her Instagram story highlighting the urgent need for assistance.
She stated, “Many parts of the country are currently affected by floods, with Assam being one of the hardest-hit areas facing extremely challenging conditions. So far, over 60 lives have been lost, and millions have been displaced.”
Families have lost their homes, land, livestock, and in some cases, their loved ones. The actress noted that such disasters occur annually, saying, “This happens every year, yet we are never fully prepared for it. Assam urgently needs immediate relief and long-term support for rehabilitation.”
Alia mentioned that she would share ways for people to assist through organizations working on the ground in the coming days.
According to the latest reports, the death toll in Assam has risen to 75. Seven districts—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Kamrup Metropolitan—are still grappling with the floods, affecting 21 revenue circles and 622 villages.
The floods have submerged 45,341.98 hectares of agricultural land, with reports of damage to various infrastructures, including homes, livestock shelters, and schools in the affected districts.
