Albino Buffalo Nicknamed 'Donald Trump' Saved from Eid Sacrifice in Bangladesh
Government Intervention Saves Unique Buffalo
In Bangladesh, a rare albino buffalo, affectionately called “Donald Trump” due to its unique blond tuft, has been rescued from being sacrificed during Eid al-Adha. This decision came after the animal gained significant attention online, prompting government action. Weighing nearly 700 kilograms (1,543 pounds), the buffalo was initially sold for slaughter ahead of the Eid celebrations, but authorities intervened, citing public interest and security issues.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the buffalo to be spared, ensuring the buyer received a refund and the animal was relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka. A Home Ministry official stated, “The decision to save the buffalo was made at the last moment due to its popularity and security concerns.” What started as a simple livestock sale transformed into a national sensation as videos of the albino buffalo circulated widely on social media, attracting large crowds eager to see the animal.
Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha revealed that the buffalo earned its nickname from his younger brother, who saw a resemblance to the former US President. Mridha described the buffalo as gentle and requiring special care, including regular feeding and baths. Albino buffaloes are quite rare in Bangladesh, where most cattle are dark, making this animal particularly notable during the busy Eid season.
Officials believe that the buffalo's viral fame, especially its quirky nickname, significantly contributed to its rescue from slaughter. During Eid al-Adha, over 12 million animals, including cows, goats, sheep, and buffaloes, are typically sacrificed across Bangladesh, providing many families with a rare chance to enjoy meat.
