Akhilesh Yadav Meets Mamata Banerjee Amidst Election Controversies
Akhilesh Yadav's Visit to Kolkata
Despite not campaigning for Mamata Banerjee during the West Bengal Assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, visited Kolkata today to meet with her following the election results.
Akhilesh Honors Mamata Banerjee
During his visit, the former Chief Minister honored Mamata Banerjee at her residence in Kalighat by draping a shawl around her shoulders, expressing his belief that she has not been defeated. The meeting was also attended by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee.
Accusations Against BJP
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of undermining democracy in West Bengal, labeling the party as anti-women and feudalistic, claiming they do not want to see women progress. He emphasized that Mamata Banerjee represents half of the population, making her a target for the BJP.
Concerns Over Election Integrity
He raised concerns about the fairness of the elections, stating that the Election Commission failed to uphold its responsibilities. Yadav alleged that the BJP exerted pressure on voters, a tactic he claimed was also used in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and by-elections. He asserted that during the by-elections, police prevented Samajwadi Party supporters from voting.
Criticism of Post-Election Violence
Commenting on the violence that erupted after the elections in Bengal, Akhilesh accused the BJP of fostering chaos. He questioned the whereabouts of the central security forces that were deployed during the elections, suggesting a collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission to weaken democracy.
