Akhilesh Yadav's Strong Criticism of BJP
The president of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, launched a fierce critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a discussion on the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. He accused the BJP of utilizing this bill as a political tool rather than a genuine step towards empowering women. While addressing the assembly, Yadav claimed that the BJP is seeking votes under the guise of the Women's Reservation Bill and alleged that the ruling party is attempting to compensate for a decline in its electoral support. He further asserted that the bill is being rushed through to avoid a caste-based census.
Concerns Over Implementation of Women's Reservation
The Samajwadi Party leader also expressed his party's support for the concept of women's reservation but raised concerns regarding its implementation and objectives. He alleged that the government is neglecting women from marginalized and backward communities. Yadav emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has a longstanding commitment to women's empowerment, referencing the ideology of their leader, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, who consistently advocated for gender and social justice.
Introduction of Key Bills by the Government
On Thursday, the government introduced three significant bills aimed at implementing reservations for women in the Lok Sabha: the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the Delimitation Bill. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal presented two of the bills, while Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the third. The session witnessed intense debates, with both the ruling party and the opposition presenting strong arguments regarding the proposed framework and its implementation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to speak on this topic later in the discussion.
