Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes BJP Over Rising Crimes Against Women in Uttar Pradesh
Akhilesh Yadav's Strong Condemnation of BJP
On Saturday, Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his strong disapproval of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh following the tragic death of a minor girl in Ghazipur. The girl, who had been missing since April 14, was found deceased near a bridge over the Ganges River on April 15. During a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav accused the BJP of pressuring the victim's father.
Yadav stated that police officials and BJP leaders attempted to coerce the father. He mentioned that he had shared a video showing their efforts to persuade him. He emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has always stood by those who have suffered. He pointed out that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of atrocities against women, labeling the BJP as the most predatory party.
Earlier that day, the Ghazipur police claimed that the minor had committed suicide, noting that the father's complaint did not mention rape. The police reported on social media that at 5:44 AM on April 15, 2026, the victim's father called emergency services to report that his daughter had jumped from the bridge. The FIR filed based on the father's written complaint did not include any allegations of rape. Furthermore, the police stated that the post-mortem examination did not reveal any evidence of sexual assault, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified and misleading rumors that could disrupt social harmony.
Ongoing Investigations and Arrests
The police also announced that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder case, while ten others have been detained for alleged stone-pelting. Further arrests are ongoing. During the press conference, Akhilesh Yadav remarked that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Samajwadi Party are aligned, as seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs have joined forces with the BJP.
