Criticism of Infrastructure Quality

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has expressed his discontent regarding the poor condition of a recently inaugurated road in Uttar Pradesh, attributing the blame to the BJP government. He has accused the administration of substandard construction and widespread corruption in infrastructure projects. On January 31, Yadav shared a video on X showcasing repair work on the newly opened road, highlighting the use of electric fans to expedite the drying process of the repairs.

Yadav raised doubts about the timely completion of the proposed Atal Expressway, suggesting that it might remain merely a plan or be confined to paperwork.

Concerns Over Recent Developments

He remarked that this is a new wave of 'progress' characteristic of the BJP. It is concerning that a road inaugurated just days ago already requires repairs, and notably, electric fans are being used to dry the repair work. Who would risk driving on an expressway that deteriorates within weeks? Furthermore, he questioned whether the 'Atal Expressway' would ever materialize or if it has already been constructed on paper with funds misappropriated.

Yadav further criticized the BJP's governance, stating that construction projects under their regime tend to fail, collapse, or deteriorate more often than not.

NHAI's Response to the Situation

In response, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that it has taken strict action against the concessionaire, independent engineers, and relevant officials after identifying deficiencies on the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway. They reported that approximately 300 meters of the road had shifted near the 64th kilometer mark. Immediate repair work has commenced, and a comprehensive technical investigation of the affected area has been ordered. Disciplinary actions against all parties responsible for the project's completion and oversight deficiencies have also been initiated.

NHAI mentioned that traffic around the affected section has been diverted and is currently flowing smoothly. Toll collection on this expressway has been suspended until the repairs are fully completed, with compensation for the loss of toll revenue to be sought from the concessionaire.
