AJYCP Takes a Stand Against Environmental Destruction

Nagaon, July 4: On Thursday, thirteen local units of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) from Nagaon district presented individual memorandums to the District Commissioner via the respective Revenue Circle Officers. Their primary demand is for an immediate cessation of extensive deforestation and unlawful stone mining activities within the district.

In their memorandums, the groups urged the authorities to take swift action against the ongoing destruction of forests and the illegal mining operations conducted by various stone quarries, both large and small, in the area. They also called for a comprehensive investigation into the felling of 18 mature trees, which was done to facilitate road widening from Senchowa to Bebejia.

The leaders of these organizations specifically highlighted the urgent need for action against environmental degradation caused by a stone crusher owned by an individual named Gandhi, located in Udmari near Samaguri in Nagaon district.

They issued a warning that should the authorities neglect to act, they would initiate a significant movement aimed at safeguarding the environment and forests. Additionally, the groups criticized the forest department for its perceived inaction in protecting the forested areas.
