Ajinkya Rahane Reflects on Batting Form Amid KKR's IPL 2026 Opener
Rahane's Performance in IPL 2026 Opener
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), expressed his contentment with his batting performance, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing his skills in T20 cricket rather than seeking validation from others. In KKR's opening match of IPL 2026 against the Mumbai Indians, he scored an impressive 67 runs off 40 deliveries.
Return After a Break
Rahane had not played since December 2025, and his return was marked by a strong performance, scoring 67 runs in just 40 balls at Wankhede Stadium, dispelling doubts about his future in the game.
Focus on Personal Growth
"I am genuinely pleased with my current batting form. My goal isn't to prove my talent to anyone. I prefer to let my performance speak for itself. Over the past two to three years, I have focused on improving my game in the T20 format. It's crucial for me to evolve as a cricketer, and that's my priority. Let people talk; I will continue to work on my game," Rahane stated during a post-match interview.
KKR's Defeat Despite Strong Contributions
Despite Rahane's commendable innings, KKR faced defeat as Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma's outstanding performances led Mumbai Indians to a convincing six-wicket win. KKR managed to score 220 runs in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to contributions from Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and a late surge from Rinku Singh.
Impact of Jasprit Bumrah
Rahane acknowledged that while 220 seemed like a competitive score, Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling in the final overs significantly impacted the match. Bumrah bowled the 18th and 20th overs, conceding only 19 runs, which restricted KKR's scoring potential. "Initially, we believed 220 was a solid total, aiming for around 235 or 240. However, Bumrah's two overs changed the game. His reputation as a top bowler is well-deserved," Rahane remarked.
