Ajinkya Rahane Breaks Unwanted IPL Duck Record
Rahane's Unfortunate Record
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has unfortunately made history by recording the highest number of ducks as an opening batsman in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In a recent match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens, Rahane was dismissed for a duck after facing just two balls. This dismissal marked his second consecutive duck, following a golden duck in KKR's previous game against Gujarat Titans.
Struggles This Season
With this latest performance, Rahane has now accumulated a total of 12 ducks as an opener in IPL history, the highest for any player in that position. The only other opener with more than 10 ducks in the tournament is Parthiv Patel.
Rahane started the IPL 2026 season strongly, scoring 67 runs off 40 balls against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. However, his form has since declined, as he has recorded four scores in single digits across seven matches. Overall, he has managed to score 152 runs in these games, averaging 25.33, which includes one half-century.
KKR Bowlers Shine Against Royals
In the match itself, KKR's bowlers, Varun Chakravarthy and Kartik, excelled by each taking three wickets, limiting Rajasthan Royals to a total of 155 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
As KKR seeks their first victory of the 2026 IPL season, they will need to chase down 156 runs within their allotted overs to earn two vital points and maintain their chances for the playoffs.
