AIUDF President Urges Fair Elections

Moulana Badruddin Ajmal, the head of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has called on opposition parties to unite following the announcement of the Assam Assembly election schedule. He urged the election commission to ensure that the electoral process remains free, fair, and impartial, particularly in regions where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not hold power. Speaking to a news outlet, Ajmal expressed his party's support for the announced schedule but emphasized the need for fairness in the conduct of the elections.

Ensuring Equality in the Democratic Process

Ajmal welcomed the announcement, stating that the election commission must guarantee that elections are conducted impartially in areas lacking BJP governance. He stressed the importance of strengthening governance without bias towards any party. According to him, all political parties should be treated equally during the election period, and there should be no discrimination against any party.

A Call to Challenge the Ruling Party

The AIUDF leader urged opposition parties to come together to challenge the ruling party. He stated, "We want to remove the BJP from power. I appeal to all non-BJP parties to unite and work towards this goal." The election commission announced the schedule for assembly elections in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry on Sunday. Voting in West Bengal will occur in two phases on April 23 and April 29, while Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will have voting on April 9. Tamil Nadu will hold its elections on April 23, with vote counting for all five regions set for May 4.

Election Logistics and Voter Engagement

The election schedule released by the commission includes a total of 824 assembly seats across the five regions, with an estimated 174 million voters expected to participate. Approximately 2.1 million polling stations will be established, and around 2.5 million personnel will be deployed for the elections. Following the announcement of the schedule, the code of conduct has come into immediate effect in all voting states and Union Territories.
