Resumption of Air India Flights

Following the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, Air India is set to restart its flights between Goa and London’s Gatwick Airport by the end of September. This announcement was made by Goa's Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, during a discussion in the state assembly.

During the assembly session on Tuesday, Khaunte emphasized that improved connectivity from various locations to Goa is significantly benefiting the state's tourism sector.

Flights from Goa's Mopa International Airport to Gatwick were suspended after the Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London met with an accident last month.

The Ahmedabad incident resulted in the loss of 260 lives, including 241 passengers on board. Khaunte informed the assembly that direct flights between Goa and Gatwick are expected to resume by the end of this September.

BJP legislator Michael Lobo pointed out that this is the only direct flight from London to Goa. In response, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant mentioned last week in the assembly that he would engage with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to facilitate the resumption of this flight.

Khaunte also announced that starting October 5, 2025, the Russian airline Aeroflot will operate three weekly flights from Yekaterinburg to Goa's Mopa International Airport, each accommodating up to 210 passengers. The minister projected that this service could bring over 13,000 Russian tourists to Goa in the upcoming season.
