Air India Rescues 149 Passengers from Dubai Amid Middle East Crisis
Air India’s Special Flight Operation
New Delhi: On Tuesday, Air India successfully repatriated 149 passengers stranded in Dubai as part of its special flight operations due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
The flight, designated AI916D, arrived at Delhi Airport at 10:58 AM IST, as confirmed by the airline.
This aircraft, registered as VT-EDC, was tasked with bringing back individuals who found themselves unable to leave Dubai amid the current regional turmoil.
This flight represents the first initiative by an Indian airline to facilitate the return of passengers during this crisis.
In a statement, Air India noted, “We are pleased to welcome back stranded passengers from Dubai on flight AI916D, which landed at 10:58 hrs IST at Delhi Airport, carrying a total of 149 individuals.”
The airline further emphasized that this was the inaugural flight by an Indian carrier aimed at assisting passengers during the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
Earlier that morning, another special flight, AI918D, successfully transported 143 crew members from Air India and Air India Express who were also stranded in Dubai.
These crew members returned safely to Delhi, providing much-needed relief to both the airline and their families.
Air India highlighted that its Operations Control Centre and support teams have been tirelessly working to facilitate these flights under challenging circumstances.
The airline ensured effective coordination with relevant authorities to ensure smooth operations.
Air India expressed its gratitude to the Indian Government, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and local Dubai authorities for their invaluable support in ensuring the safe return of passengers and crew.
The airline reiterated that the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew are its utmost priority, and it is actively monitoring the situation while maintaining communication with Dubai Airports and other relevant entities to arrange additional flights as soon as possible, pending necessary approvals.
