Expansion of Code-Share Agreement

On Monday, Air India and Air Mauritius announced the expansion of their code-share partnership. This development will improve connectivity between India and South Africa, as well as Réunion and Madagascar via Mauritius.

According to a press release, under the robust bilateral code-share agreement, Air India and Air Mauritius will share their codes on a total of 17 routes connecting India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.

Typically, under a code-share partnership, airlines allow ticket bookings for flights operated by their partner airline. The press release stated, “Air India will place its ‘AI’ code on Air Mauritius flights that operate to and from Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, as well as the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo.”

The airline already has a code-share arrangement for flights between Mauritius and Mumbai and Delhi, as well as for flights to Réunion operated by Air Mauritius. The extended code-share partnership agreement was signed by Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, and Kishore Begoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius, during the annual general meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) held in the national capital.
