AIMIM Ends Alliance with Humayun Kabir's Party Amid Controversy
AIMIM Cuts Ties with Humayun Kabir's Party
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has officially severed its alliance with Humayun Kabir's 'Aam Janata Unnayan Party' (AJUP). This decision comes in the wake of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) releasing a controversial 'sting video'. In this footage, Kabir allegedly makes contentious claims regarding his connections with Muslims in West Bengal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kabir, who was suspended from TMC last year and subsequently founded AJUP, dismissed the video as "AI-generated" during a press conference.
The TMC has also accused the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) of being involved in a multi-crore scheme aimed at defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
Allegations from the Sting Video
In the video released by TMC, Kabir is reportedly heard claiming that he was in contact with the PMO and had been advised to coordinate with leaders from BJP-ruled states, including opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The footage allegedly includes statements from Kabir suggesting that "it is easy to fool Muslims," references to the Babri Masjid issue, and a purported demand for an advance payment of 200 crores. The clip also shows Kabir discussing a strategy aimed at diverting minority votes away from TMC, implying that such changes could benefit the BJP in elections. Additionally, he is reportedly heard mentioning a plan worth 1,000 crores, claiming that he had already received 200 crores as an advance.
TMC Calls for Investigation
The Trinamool Congress has demanded an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the claims made in the video. However, Kabir has accused TMC leadership of orchestrating a smear campaign against him. He stated that he would initiate defamation proceedings against senior party leaders.
