AIMIM's Strong Performance in Maharashtra

Under the leadership of Asaduddin Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has made significant strides in the recent municipal elections held in Maharashtra. The party has notably strengthened its presence across various municipal corporations in the state, achieving results that exceeded expectations.

The elections, conducted on January 15, 2026, saw AIMIM field candidates in numerous municipalities, winning between 114 and 126 wards, according to various reports (some sources indicate a total of 125-126). This marks a substantial increase from the mere 56 wards won in the previous municipal elections.

This performance is considered AIMIM's strongest showing in Maharashtra to date. The party has particularly established a solid foothold in Muslim-majority areas, surpassing traditional parties such as the Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in several locations.

Key victories for AIMIM in major cities include (based on various sources):

  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad): 33 seats

  • Malegaon: 21 seats

  • Amravati: 12-15 seats

  • Nanded: 13-14 seats

  • Dhule: 10 seats

  • Solapur: 8 seats

  • Mumbai (BMC): 6-8 seats (This marks the party's first win here, including the victory of Mehjabeen Khan from Ward 134)

  • Thane: 5 seats

  • Others: Additional seats in Jalgaon, Chandrapur, and more

Asaduddin Owaisi expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for this success. He mentioned that approximately 125 councilors have been elected and urged them to meet public expectations, focus on development, and remain connected with the community. Owaisi also encouraged the losing parties to engage in self-reflection.

This achievement is attributed to AIMIM's strategic approach, which included Owaisi's grassroots outreach, rallies, and a focus on local issues. Despite facing internal challenges, such as dissatisfaction over ticket distribution, the party made a strong comeback.
