AIIMS Guwahati Becomes First ATLS Provider Centre in North East India
AIIMS Guwahati Achieves ATLS Accreditation
Guwahati, Dec 17: AIIMS Guwahati has marked a historic achievement by becoming the first institution in the North East to receive accreditation as an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Provider Centre.
Under the guidance of Prof (Col) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, this accreditation was awarded. To celebrate this milestone, the institute successfully hosted its first ATLS Provider Course from December 12 to 14, 2025, paving the way for structured trauma education in the region.
The event saw participation from Prof MC Mishra, chair of ATLS India and former Director of AIIMS New Delhi, along with senior ATLS faculty from various parts of the country, who contributed their expertise to enhance the program.
This accreditation represents a significant advancement in the dissemination of standardized trauma management practices, particularly emphasizing timely interventions during the critical 'golden hour,' which is vital for trauma survival and recovery.
Each ATLS course at AIIMS Guwahati accommodates 16 participants and adheres to a comprehensive training framework that includes two days of intensive practical and theoretical sessions, culminating in a formal evaluation on the third day, in strict accordance with ATLS standards.
Through this initiative, AIIMS Guwahati demonstrates its dedication to enhancing trauma care capabilities in the North East, ensuring ongoing ATLS training that aims to improve emergency responses, patient outcomes, and reduce trauma-related fatalities in the region.
