AIADMK's Strong Critique of Congress Leadership

On Tuesday, AIADMK spokesperson K. Satyam launched a fierce attack on K. Selva Perunthagai, the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress, labeling him a spokesperson for the DMK and accusing him of leading the Congress into "darkness." In a conversation with a news outlet, Satyam expressed that due to the ongoing deadlock over seat-sharing arrangements with the DMK, Selva Perunthagai is the most "ineligible" person to lead Congress in the state.

Satyam further asserted that the DMK is nearing its "end" as it struggles to form a robust coalition.

Historically, the DMK has never won elections consistently and has always contested in alliances. As elections approach, the DMK's difficulties in securing a strong ally suggest that its coalition and its partners may be facing imminent challenges. He emphasized that the Congress in Tamil Nadu is merely a mouthpiece for the DMK, and Selva Perunthagai is unfit for the role of a state leader of a national party.

This criticism coincided with a meeting involving Congress MP P. Chidambaram and Tamil Nadu Congress president K. Selva Perunthagai, who visited Chief Minister Stalin's residence to resolve the deadlock regarding the seat-sharing formula between the DMK and Congress.

Congress and DMK Negotiations Amid Election Preparations

With rumors of rifts among alliance partners surfacing ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Selva Perunthagai clarified on Monday that an agreement would be reached following discussions on seat-sharing between Congress and DMK, asserting that there is no confusion between the two parties.

The state Congress president stated, "Negotiations occur in every election, with each party seeking more seats, ultimately leading to a compromise. The same will happen here. We are requesting a few more seats, and an agreement will be reached." Previously, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai mentioned that Selva Perunthagai had made it clear that the high command had not instructed him to speak with anyone. Annadurai noted that they are in alliance with the DMK and are discussing seat-sharing, acknowledging potential difficulties but expressing confidence in resolving them.
