AIADMK Finalizes Seat Sharing with BJP Ahead of Assembly Elections
AIADMK to Announce Seat Distribution Soon
The AIADMK is set to finalize its seat-sharing arrangement with the BJP and other NDA allies for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for April 23. Party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced on Friday that the formal declaration of allocated constituencies will occur within four days. Dismissing any potential obstacles in negotiations, Palaniswami, who met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Thursday night, stated that discussions are progressing smoothly and will be resolved amicably.
Coalition Dynamics and Future Plans
Leading the multi-party National Democratic Alliance, AIADMK includes partners such as the BJP, AMMK, and PMK. Before departing for the national capital, the former Chief Minister assured reporters that details would be revealed in four days. He emphasized that the seat allocation process would be straightforward and precise, unlike the DMK alliance. The goal is to assign constituencies where coalition partners have a strong chance of winning.
Upcoming Visits and Political Discussions
Piyush Goyal, the BJP's Tamil Nadu in-charge, is scheduled to visit the state on Saturday to further the discussions. Palaniswami described his meeting with Shah as cordial, during which they discussed the political landscape of Tamil Nadu. He dismissed media speculation regarding an alliance with the TVK led by Vijay, reiterating that as AIADMK General Secretary, he has consistently stated that no talks have taken place with TVK.
NDA Stability and Recent Controversies
When asked about the possibility of another party joining the NDA, Palaniswami indicated that it is unlikely, as the coalition is already solidified. In response to a controversial remark made by AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP C.Ve. Shanmugam regarding actress Nayanthara, which criticized a recent plan by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Palaniswami noted that Shanmugam has apologized upon realizing his mistake, making further discussion on the matter inappropriate.
