AGP Strengthens Political Strategy Ahead of 2026 Assam Elections
AGP's Strategic Meeting in Nalbari
Nalbari, July 13: As the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approach, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is ramping up its political efforts in Nalbari, indicating a strategic initiative to regain its foothold in the region.
Recently, the party convened an important meeting aimed at securing a nomination for the Nalbari constituency, emphasizing its renewed commitment to regional identity and grassroots engagement.
With political activity intensifying across Assam, both the ruling party and opposition factions, along with their allies, are preparing for the upcoming electoral contest.
In this context, an extended executive meeting took place on Sunday at Pub Nalbari Junior College, organized collaboratively by the AGP’s affiliated groups — the Asom Yuba Parishad (Youth Wing), Krishak Parishad (Farmers’ Wing), and the Religious Minority Parishad.
The meeting concentrated on the political prospects for the Nalbari Assembly seat, especially considering AGP’s unwavering support for NDA-endorsed candidates over the past decade. However, there is now a strong push from within the party for an AGP candidate to run in Nalbari, a constituency often seen as a stronghold of regionalism.
AGP Central Secretary Dilip Kumar Das remarked, “Secretaries from various AGP wings and numerous party members attended today’s meeting. There is a significant desire among our members and the people of Nalbari for an AGP candidate in the upcoming 2026 elections. This sentiment is not solely the party’s; it reflects the will of the people.”
He also mentioned that he would contemplate running in the 2026 elections if the community expressed such a wish.
Das stated, “We will discuss this matter further, but if the people want me to represent them, I will step forward. AGP is dedicated to safeguarding our jati, mati, bheti and preserving Assamese culture. We will adhere to whatever decision our party leadership makes.”
Recognizing the sentiments shared during the meeting, Das commended the contributions of the party’s allied organizations, the intellectual community, and the residents of Nalbari.
He called for ongoing unity and assured that the demand for an AGP candidate from the Nalbari constituency would be taken into serious consideration, reflecting the aspirations of the populace.
