Agarwood Dispute Escalates into Legal Battle in Hojai District
Serious Dispute Over Agarwood Transaction
Hojai, Feb 3: A significant conflict has emerged in Doboka, Hojai district, concerning a high-value agarwood transaction, resulting in police reports and claims of an international escape. This situation stems from a business arrangement between two friends that has devolved into a contentious digital and legal dispute.
Reports indicate that a Doboka resident, Islam Uddin, has accused his friend Imran Hussain of fraud after selling him agarwood (oudh) valued at around Rs 15 lakh on credit. Islam mentioned that this deal was made approximately a year and a half ago, with an agreement that payment would be made within two months.
Despite the time elapsed, the payment remains unsettled. Initially, Islam chose not to pursue the matter aggressively, assuming Hussain might be experiencing financial issues due to their friendship.
However, as Islam's financial situation became more pressing, he began to request the payment, which he claims went ignored.
The situation escalated when Islam learned that Imran Hussain had allegedly traveled to Dubai without clearing the debt. Islam further accused Hussain of tarnishing his reputation on social media by posting videos and labeling him a thief for seeking repayment.
Feeling harassed and with no other options, Islam Uddin filed FIRs at the Murajhar and Doboka police stations, seeking legal recourse against Hussain.
Local sources have reported that both individuals engaged in a lengthy social media feud, posting videos against one another. Although there were attempts to reconcile and remove the online content, the issue ultimately escalated to police involvement.
Efforts to reach Imran Hussain for his perspective were unsuccessful, as he was unavailable for comment at the time of this report.
Authorities have acknowledged the complaints and are currently investigating the situation further.
