After a Decade Apart, Balasore Woman Reunites with Son Following Dramatic Rescue
A Long-Awaited Reunion
In Balasore, a mother is on the verge of reuniting with her son after ten long years, thanks to a successful operation that led to the child's rescue from Delhi and the apprehension of his father, who had allegedly abducted him.
During a press conference at the DIG (Eastern Range) office, DIG Satyajit Nayak announced that a specialized police team, aided by intelligence from the anti-human trafficking organization 'You to Sell' and the cyber unit, successfully located and rescued the boy. SP Raj Prasad was also present at the event.
The situation took a significant turn when Seema Satapathy, the mother, initiated legal proceedings in the Balasore family court to gain custody of her son. Following a court order, police were able to trace the now 14-year-old boy and his father, Kamalakanta Mishra, to Delhi.
Seema and Kamalakanta were married in 2008 and resided in Pandashuni village under the jurisdiction of Gopalpur police. They had one son together. In 2016, Seema filed a complaint with the Khantapada police, alleging dowry-related harassment. A case (No 15/16) was registered, prompting Seema to return to her parents' home with her son. However, Kamalakanta deceitfully took the child from her and fled, severing all communication with Seema and frequently changing his location to avoid capture.
Seema subsequently filed another case (No 96/16) in the Balasore family court, which instructed the police to recover the child and return him to her custody.
Initial attempts to locate the father and son were unsuccessful, leading to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against Kamalakanta.
Under DIG Nayak's guidance, SP Raj Prasad assembled a special team led by Additional SP Alok Ranjan Ray. Following a tip-off, officers SI Lokanath Soren, SI Dhaneswar Nanda, and Constable Bikash Kumar Mahapatra executed a successful operation in Delhi, resulting in Kamalakanta's arrest and the child's safe recovery.
The accused was presented in court on Monday, and police confirmed that the boy is expected to be reunited with his mother on Tuesday.
