Afghanistan Set to Host India for Historic T20I Series in September

Afghanistan is poised to welcome India for a three-match T20I series in Delhi, tentatively scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. The official confirmation of the schedule is still pending.

This series will be a landmark event as it marks the first time Afghanistan will host India on Indian territory. Historically, Afghanistan has played its home matches in India, utilizing venues in Lucknow, Dehradun, and Greater Noida, but they have never faced India in a home series here.

India's Busy Cricket Calendar

For the Indian team, this T20I series is strategically placed between their Test series in Sri Lanka and the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. The second Test against Sri Lanka is set to conclude on August 27, while the Asian Games will kick off on September 24, just a week after the final T20I against Afghanistan.

Recent Encounters and Performance Analysis

The last encounter between Afghanistan and India took place in June, when Afghanistan toured India for a single Test and three ODIs. India achieved a resounding victory in the Test, winning by an innings and 300 runs, and completed a clean sweep in the ODI series with a 3-0 scoreline.

Despite being the reigning T20 World Cup champions, India has faced challenges in recent white-ball formats. They suffered defeats in both T20Is against Ireland in Belfast in late June, followed by a 4-0 loss in a T20I series against England, with one match being washed out, and a 2-1 loss in the ODI series. Currently, India is in Zimbabwe for a three-match series.

On the other hand, Afghanistan has not participated in a T20I since the T20 World Cup held earlier this year in India, where they managed to win two out of four matches but did not advance to the Super Eight stage.
