Capture of the Tiger in Pathanamthitta District

An adult tiger that had been attacking livestock in populated areas of Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, was captured on Monday, according to officials.

For the past two months, reports of the tiger's presence near the Kumbalthaman area close to Vadaserikara had been received. This tiger had been preying on domestic animals consistently.

Forest department personnel set up cameras in the area, which confirmed the tiger's presence.

Officials reported that the tiger had killed several buffaloes, dogs, and goats in Kumbalthaman, which is adjacent to the forest area. They noted that a goat was found dead in a secluded spot on Sunday, having been hunted by the tiger.

Following this, forest officials placed the goat's skeleton near a trap as bait. They stated that early Monday morning, when the tiger approached, it became trapped in the cage.

The captured tiger will be taken to a nearby forest center for a medical examination. An official mentioned that a decision will later be made regarding whether to release the tiger back into the wild or keep it under observation.

Officials clarified that while the incidents of livestock killings had instilled fear among local residents, the tiger had never attacked humans.
