Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi Strengthens India-Myanmar Naval Ties During Visit
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation
New Delhi: Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Indian Navy, commenced a four-day trip to Myanmar on Saturday aimed at bolstering operational cooperation between the two nations' naval forces and identifying new collaborative opportunities in maritime security.
This visit underscores the enduring friendship between India and Myanmar, founded on mutual respect, trust, and a collective dedication to ensuring maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region, as stated by the Indian Navy.
During his stay, Admiral Tripathi is set to engage in discussions with key military figures, including General Ye Win Oo, the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's armed forces, Defence Minister General U Htun Aung, and Admiral Htein Win, the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy.
These discussions are expected to facilitate a review of current maritime cooperation, strengthen operational ties, and explore new collaborative avenues between the two navies.
Myanmar, sharing a 1,640-kilometer border with several northeastern Indian states such as Nagaland and Manipur, is recognized as a vital strategic partner for India.
The nation plays a significant role in India's 'Neighbourhood First', 'Act East', and 'MAHASAGAR' initiatives.
Prime Minister Modi introduced the MAHASAGAR vision, which stands for 'Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions', during his visit to Mauritius last March.
Admiral Tripathi's itinerary also includes a visit to the Central Naval Command of the Myanmar Navy and its Number One Fleet.
These engagements will encompass a broad spectrum of defense cooperation topics, particularly focusing on maritime security, capacity building, capability enhancement, and training.
The Indian Navy maintains regular interactions with the Myanmar Navy through staff talks, training exchanges, and operational collaborations, including the India-Myanmar Naval Exercise (IMNEX), Indo-Myanmar Coordinated Patrol (IMCOR), and hydrographic surveys.
Myanmar has actively participated in various recent events organized by the Indian Navy, such as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, MILAN naval exercise, International Fleet Review, and the Goa Maritime Conclave.
The Chief of Naval Staff's visit further solidifies the long-standing friendship between India and Myanmar, rooted in mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
