Thackeray Criticizes Government's Response to Climate Activism

Aditya Thackeray, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), has expressed his support for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike. Thackeray criticized the central government, led by the BJP, for its alleged insensitivity towards the concerns raised by Wangchuk. He accused the government of prioritizing divisive politics over addressing public issues. In a post on X, he stated that the BJP's indifference to the issues Wangchuk is fasting for demonstrates a complete disregard for the youth of India.

Call for Accountability in NEET-UG Exam Paper Leak

Thackeray specifically targeted Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding the recent leak of the NEET-UG entrance exam paper. He insisted that Pradhan should be held accountable and removed from his position. Thackeray emphasized that it is a straightforward demand that the education minister be made responsible for such a serious incident, which would not be tolerated in any other country.

BJP's Strategy of Division

Discussing recent controversies, including the exam paper leak, ethanol policy, and the Ram Temple issue, Thackeray claimed that the BJP is using these matters to create divisions among the public to maintain its power. He asserted that whether it is the paper leak, the ethanol issue, or the temple matter, the BJP's sole strategy is to divide people and cling to authority.

Court Orders Monitoring of Wangchuk's Health

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has ordered daily monitoring of Wangchuk's health as he continues his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia, emphasized the value of every citizen's life and instructed government officials to make every effort to protect it. They directed that medical assistance should be provided without delay based on the advice of government doctors if necessary.

Government's Assurance on Medical Monitoring

This directive followed a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning Wangchuk's deteriorating health. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central and Delhi governments, informed the court that medical teams are already monitoring Wangchuk's condition daily and assured that additional medical staff could be deployed if required.
