Aditya Thackeray Claims Political Maneuvering Targets Devendra Fadnavis
In Maharashtra's shifting political landscape, Aditya Thackeray has voiced concerns that recent rebellions are designed to exclude Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from the Prime Ministerial race, ultimately aiding Eknath Shinde. He reiterated claims made by his father, Uddhav Thackeray, about a strategy to control Fadnavis. While Fadnavis dismissed these allegations, Thackeray highlighted the BJP's attempts to stifle Maharashtra's political voice. He also addressed accusations of inactivity within Uddhav's faction, questioning the effectiveness of other regional leaders. This commentary comes on the heels of significant defections that have bolstered the NDA's presence in Parliament.

Political Dynamics in Maharashtra
In the current political landscape of Maharashtra, where leaders are frequently switching allegiances, Aditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT) has asserted that recent rebellions are strategically aimed at sidelining Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from the race for Prime Minister. He indicated that this situation would ultimately benefit former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In an interview with a prominent news outlet, Thackeray echoed sentiments previously expressed by his father, UBT leader Uddhav Thackeray. He suggested that certain factions within the BJP are keen on positioning Fadnavis in the central cabinet to diminish his influence. Thackeray further stated that this maneuvering would advantage Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as it ensures that he does not emerge as a prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 elections, which aligns with Shinde's ambition to reclaim the chief ministership.
Uddhav Thackeray's Similar Claims
Last week, Uddhav Thackeray made similar allegations, claiming that an 'Operation Devendra' is underway to keep the Chief Minister under control. However, Fadnavis dismissed these assertions, stating, 'I am a human being. If I am not being targeted, who can?' He expressed confidence in the support of Maharashtra's 140 million citizens and his senior leaders, indicating that there is no cause for concern. Aditya Thackeray also referenced recent rebellions within the Aam Aadmi Party and the ongoing crisis in the Trinamool Congress, arguing that the BJP aims to suppress Maharashtra's voice.
Response to Allegations of Inactivity
When questioned about accusations of inactivity within Uddhav's faction, Aditya countered by asking about leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, and Mamata Banerjee. He pointed out that despite their interactions with MPs, their parties have faced fragmentation. As MPs and MLAs, they are local leaders, and he questioned why they have not engaged in grassroots protests over local issues. He concluded that they have set their own prices and sold out. This statement follows the recent defection of six UBT MPs to Shinde's faction, significantly increasing the NDA's strength in Parliament.
