Aditya Mehta's recent achievement in snooker has brought him immense pride, especially with a significant personal milestone accompanying it. The Indian cueist secured the gold medal in men's snooker at the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships 2026 held in Ahmedabad, triumphing over fellow Indian Dhvaj Haria with a score of 3–0 in the final match on Saturday. This victory is not just about the score; it holds a profound personal meaning for Mehta.
A Gold Medal for His Daughter
This gold medal marks Aditya's first since becoming a father, a moment he eagerly wished to dedicate to his daughter, whom he lovingly refers to as his 'Special One.' Prior to the tournament, he expressed his desire to win an international title for her. With this victory now in hand, his dream has come true, making the win on home turf even more special.
"This means everything to me. Becoming a parent is transformative, and my daughter has infused our home with new energy. This is my first gold since she entered my life, and the thought of winning it for her motivated me throughout the tournament. I faced tough moments but managed to persevere," Aditya shared in a press release.
Strategic Play and Resilience
Achieving gold required both resilience and skill. Despite having limited training time, Aditya feels his match play and consistency have significantly improved over the past year. This was evident in the final, where he effectively capitalized on scoring chances to secure a straight-frames victory against Haria.
"I approach each match with the same mindset: focus on my game, minimize errors, and find my rhythm. You can never predict how a match will unfold, so it's crucial to concentrate on what you can control," he explained. "Dhvaj made some impressive long shots, but I was able to convert my opportunities into frame-winning breaks, which made the difference in all three frames."
A Landmark Achievement on Home Ground
This victory also represents a significant milestone in Aditya's international career. Previously, he had won a silver medal at the Asian Championship in Indore in 2011, but this marks his first international title on Indian soil. The Championships in Ahmedabad added further significance to the event, which featured 144 players from 42 Commonwealth nations across five cue sports disciplines.
"I am thankful for the chance to represent India and bring home the gold. Winning an international title on home soil is particularly meaningful, as I had never accomplished that before. My last international medal at home was a silver at the Asian Championship in Indore in 2011, making this victory even more special," he stated.
Looking Ahead
While celebrating this achievement, Aditya is already preparing for a busy competition schedule ahead. With several international tournaments lined up for November and December, including the Asian Indoor Games, the World 6-Red Championship, and the Asian Team Championship, he aims to build on his success in Ahmedabad.
"My immediate goal is to finish the year strong. I am eager to compete for more medals for India and for my daughter," he remarked.
Additionally, Aditya is contemplating a return to the professional circuit. If his performance and fitness continue to improve, he hopes to qualify for the World Snooker Tour, a challenging endeavor that requires extensive mental and physical preparation. For now, his Commonwealth gold symbolizes a blend of personal motivation, professional dedication, and national pride, making it a title that holds special significance for his 'Special One.'
